CHANGE OF VOICE IN CASE OF PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

 



At the time of changing active voice into passive voice, subject and object are interchanged. Helping verbs ‘is’/ ‘am’/ ‘are’ are respectively replaced with ‘is being’/ ‘am being’/ ‘are being’. Using 3rd form of verb, subject follows ‘by’.

1.  Affirmative:

Active voice  : Subject + is/am/are + ing with 1st form of Verb + object.

Passive voice: Object + is/am/are + being + 3rd form of verb + by + Subject.

a.  Active voice     :  I am preparing the speech.

              Passive voice   :  The speech is being prerpared by me.

b.  Active voice     :  The farmer is watering the fields.

              Passive voice   :  The fields are being watered by the farmer.

2.  Negative:

Active voice  : Subject + is/am/are + not + ing with 1st form of Verb + object.

Passive voice : Object + is/am/are + not+being + 3rd form of verb + by + Subject.

a.  Active voice     :  He is not reading a book.

              Passive voice   :  A book is not being read by him.

b.  Active voice     :  She is not speaking the truth.

              Passive voice   :  The truth is not being spoken by her.

3.  Interrogative:

Active voice  : Is/Am/Are + subject + ing with 1st form of Verb + object?

Passive voice: Is/Am/Are +object + being + 3rd form of verb + by + Subject?

a.  Active voice     :  Are you making a noise?

              Passive voice   :  Is a noise being made by you?

b.  Active voice     :  What are you doing?

Passive voice   :  What is being done by you?
