REFLEXIVE & EMPHASIZING PRONOUNS

Reflexive pronouns refer back to a person or thing. Reflexive pronouns show that the action of the subject reflects upon the doer. However, an emphatic pronoun simply emphasizes the action of the subject.

A  Myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves and themselves are this kind of pronouns.

B_When subject and object are the same person, the reflexive pronouns are used in the form of object of verb; as :-

1_ I hurt myself.

2_ We hurt ourselves.

3_ You will hurt yourself.

4_ You will hurt yourselves.

5_ He hurt himself.

6_  She hurt herself.

7_ The horse hurt itself.

8_They hurt themselves.

9 I am looking into this mirror; I can see myself in it; I am looking at myself.

10_ Gurkiran, look into this mirror, what can you see?

I can see myself.

Yes, you can see yourself.

11_What does he say he can see?

He says that he can see himself.

12_ Can you see yourselves in the mirror, boys?

Yes, we can see ourselves.

13  They looked at themselves in the looking glass.

C_Reflexive pronouns (myself, yourself, etc.) are also used to emphasise pronouns; as :-

1_ The king himself gave her the medal.

2_ Rita herself opened the door.

3_ I myself saw her smoking in the kitchen.

4_ We will see to it ourselves.

5_ You yourself can best explain.
