An adjective is a word used to describe or
modify a noun or pronoun. It provides a noun or pronoun with extra significance
or implication.
Its kinds are as follows:-
(1) _Qualitative {of quality} Adjectives,
(2) _Quantitative {of quantity} Adjectives,
(3) _Numeral {of number} Adjectives,
(4) _Demonstrative Adjectives,
(5) _Distributive Adjectives,
(6) _Possessive Adjectives,
(7) _Interrogative Adjectives.
1_ Qualitative {of quality} Adjectives: It denotes the quality of a person or a thing; as:-
a_ Indians are a brave nation.
b_ He has golden hair.
c_ The Ganga is a sacred river.
2_ Quantitative {of quantity} Adjectives: It denotes quantity
of a thing; as:-
a_ I have sufficient funds to start the business.
b_ The Japanese had no moral courage.
c_ That year there was heavy rainfall and the peasant had a good
crop.
3_ Numeral {of number}
Adjectives: It denotes true number of a thing; as:-
a_ I knew I could hit at thirty yards.
b_ Two people would have to hold the chair, and a third would help
him up on it.
4_ Demonstrative
Adjectives: It denotes a
referred person or thing; as:-
a_ He repeated the same story again and again.
b_ Such persons as the polite bus conductor make the atmosphere
sunny.
5_ Distributive
Adjectives: It denotes every
person or thing; as:-
a_ Each day brings new experience.
b_ The villagers stood on either side of the bushes.
c_ Every nation has its own traditions.
6_ Possessive
Adjectives: It denotes
possession in respect of a noun; as:-
a_ Both your son and his wife were drowned.
b_ His guests, happy with the entertainment, took their leave the
same day.
c_ My ideas were vague, and my vocabulary was inadequate.
7_Interrogative Adjectives: These are used to
ask the noun a question; as:-
a_ What lesson do you learn from this story?
b_ Whose story do you like best?
